Files Needed:

A) Fortec_setup.zip
Contains: STB Updater

You will also need the latest Fortec BIN posted on the website http://www.best-dish.com
Unzip these files to a directory called Fortec.

1) Plug one end of the RS-232C cable (included with your receiver) into the back of IRD, and the other end in to your computer COM 1 serial port.

2) Turn the receiver on.

3) Open the Updater utility and load the latest BIN file, which you can get at http://www.best-dish.com. This is very important: before you click Download you need to turn the switch off on the back of your receiver, then turn it back on and there will be 4 progress bars on the receiver display, when the first bar appears, you need to click download. You will need to do this each time you load a BIN file to your receiver in the future.

IF YOU ARE ONLY REPROGRAMMING YOUR RECEIVER YOU CAN SKIP TO STEP 9

4) Hook up the Fortec receiver to the LNB. Take the cable coming from your LNB on your dish and plug it into the IF INPUT on the back of the receiver.

5) Click Menu on the remote and hit the right arrow button once to get into the installation menu. Select "Antenna Setup," and choose the satellite you want to view, Echostar 7 and Echostar 6,8 should already be on by default. Echostar 7 is Dishnetwork 119 and Echostar 6,8 is Dishnetwork 110 satellite. Which one you choose to watch is upto you. 110 has a lot more PPV's, but 119 has more movie channels.

6) In the top right corner of the screen you will notice a bar that says Quality, that is your signal meter. Next Goto this site to get the right look angle for aiming your dish: http://199.60.19.29/richies.net/gmc/sat/satlocator.html
If you want Dishnetwork 119 (Echostar 7), select Dish Network main satellite, if you want Dish 110 (Echostar 6,8) select Dish Network secondary satellite. Both are very close to each other.

7) Select your location or the nearest city to you and hit Calculate Look Angle. You will notice it gives you 2 numbers now, Azimuth and elevation. Now use a compass and aim it at the direction of the Azimuth reading you got. And on your dish you will see a elevation scale on the side where you can adjust the dish up and down. Set that to the same as the elevation reading you got. Now that you know the general direction of the signal your reading to fine tune it. Have someone watching the TV and another person adjusting the dish and try to get the quality bar as high as you can.

8) Once the signal is good enough (try to get above 95%) go to any channel which says Echostar 7 that does not get picture. Now go into the MENU and hit the right arrow 3 times to get to the Channel Edit menu. Select CODE. If you are prompted for a password enter: 1668. Select the last option for SET DEFAULT KEY.

9) Now go back to the installation menu and select Satellite Scan. Once it is done scanning click the exit button and watch TV.

For getting both satellites, you will need 2 dishes or 2 lnb's and you will have to run each cable from the lnb into the Diseqc switch (which is included with all receivers sold). You can plug in upto 4 satellites with these switches and link it to 1 receiver. If you need more help with setting up your receiver for more then 1 satellite please ask in the forum and we can get into more details. You can also load other channel lists to your receiver to suit your installation, check in the forum for more info.

For additional instructions please goto the forum and read or ask if you cannot find an answer.
